Yoga is the dissolution of the modification of the mind-field

According to Patanjali in Yoga Sutra (1.2),
🕉️ Yoga is the control/dissolution of the modification of the mind-field
🕉️ 瑜伽是控制心念的波動
🕉️ Yogah cittavritti nirodhah
What does this mean?
We have 5 senses, sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste. We live our life through these senses. Life should be as simple as that.
Then because of our mind (the environment we are being brought up, the education we have, memory, experiences, belief system...), instead of living life through the senses, we are living life through the mind. We have our own definition of good and bad, right and wrong, should and should not, likes and dislikes...
What will happen then?
We will be living life through these definitions. Because of these judgements, we won’t see things as is. We will be seeing things through our distorted lens, and we will react to the outside world through these distorted views.
There is a famous singer, very talented, he has a big group of fans. Then one day he expressed his view on certain things. Because some of his fans didn’t agree to his point of view, they left nasty message on his fan page, and called for a boycott of all his productions/concerts.
This is the modification of the mind. It’s the same person, same talented singer, but people's opinion and action can change all of a sudden.
When we live life with so many likes and dislikes, everyday we couldn't help but keep reacting to the outside world because we easily get triggered. Our life are simply busy reacting due to modification of the mind. We have not lived.
This is how we have been living our life. Because of the modification of the mind-field we are living life in a very limited and distorted way.
We are not living life the way it is. We are living life the way we think it is.
Life is vast. It will be sad if we cannot experience it fully.
Yoga is the dissolution of the modification of the mind-field so we can experience life in a pure way, experience life in its true form, in its totality.
May we all experience life in its purest form.

瑜伽是控制心念的波動 (瑜伽經 1.2)
這是什麼意思呢?
我們有五感,視覺,聽覺,嗅覺,味覺,觸覺。我們透過這些感官去生活。生活本應簡單如是。
然後由於我們的頭腦/思想(成長的環境,所接受的教育,記憶,經驗,信念...),我們不再純粹地透過感官生活,而是透過頭腦來生活。我們對好與壞,對與錯,應該 / 不應該,喜歡 / 不喜歡都有了自己的定義...
那會怎麼樣呢?
於是我們便活在這些框架下,基於頭腦對一切好壞對錯,應該 / 不應該已有了定義,我們看這世界時,就好像帶了一副有色眼鏡一樣,只看到曲解了的人事物,並依着這些曲解了的信息去回應他人。
有一位著名的歌手,很有才華,有很多歌迷。有一天,他對某些事情表達了自己的看法。由於他的某些歌迷不同意他的觀點,因此他們在歌迷頁面上留下了一些責罵的信息,並呼籲其他人抵制他的所有作品/音樂會。
這便是心念的波動。同一個人,依然是一位才華橫溢的歌手,但是别人對他的看法和行為卻會突然改變。
當我們有很多的喜歡 / 不喜歡時,我們很容易會被刺激到,於是我們每天就只是活在不斷被刺激,不斷不受控地生起情緒,對外界作出反應的環境下。基於心念的波動,我們只是活在一個旋渦中,我們並沒有真正的活着。
你看到嗎?這便是我們的生活,由於頭腦,心念的波動,我們過着一種非常有限和曲解了的生活。
我們根本完全感受不到最純粹,最真實的生命/生活。 我們只是按照我們頭腦的認知去生活。
生命,是廣大的。 若我們不能感受它的廣大,將會是一個遺憾。
瑜伽,是控制這些心念的波動,令我們可以不受頭腦的影響,如實的感受生命,全然感受最純粹的生命。
願我們能夠感受生命如實,如是。
