We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are

At the end of the yoga class the teacher will help us to relax the body part by part, he will name the body part and we follow his instructions to relax the body, it starts from toes and go up to head, when he mentioned the head, he said "top of the head, sides of the head...".
For a very long period of time I don't understand why he is asking us to relax "size" of the head, this last for quite a long time then one day I suddenly realized he is saying "sides" of the head😅
(Background: I was considered having a big head when I was young, so I am very sensitive to "size of the head")
This is the way we are living.
We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are.
I am so glad this silly thing happened to me, teaching me such an important lesson.
This is what we called "vritti" in yoga, modification of the mind field. Because of vrittis, we can never taste life as is.
Yoga is to dissolve the modification of the mind field so we can be established in our own true nature and feel the bliss.
在瑜伽堂的尾聲,老師會幫助我們放鬆身體,他會從腳開始,講出身體的每個部份,我們便跟着他的指引,放鬆身體那部份,直至到頭部。當他説到頭的時候,他會說頭的頂部,頭的側邊 ("sides of the head)...
這困惑了我一段很長的時間,為什麼老師會叫我們放鬆頭的大小呢 ("size of the head"),頭的大小怎麼能放鬆呢???
然後有一天我突然醒覺,發現他其實是說頭的兩側 ("sides"),並不是頭的大小 ("size") 😅
(背景:我從小一直被視為有一個很大的頭,所以我對頭的大小很敏感)
這便是我們的生活模式。
很多時候,我們並不是感受生命如實如是。
我們看見,聽見的一切,在腦海裏加上我們各自有的概念/觀念,變成了我們不自覺扭曲了的世界;我們看到的,並不是事實的實相。
很感恩這笑話教了我一課。
這些便是瑜伽所說的心念的波動,因為這些心念波動的影響,我們永遠無法感受生命如實如是。
瑜伽便是控制這些心念的波動,令我們活出真實本我,感受喜樂。
